Reducing log size

Post by marius roma »

On a Veeam B&R server the folder conaining logs uses more than 40 GB.
I need to reduce the size.
Based on KB article https://www.veeam.com/kb1825 I can move it to another place, but at the moment I can't.
Is there any way to recover space, for example by eliminating old logs, without impacting on the current B&R activity?
As an alternate solution, can I specify a network share ( \\server\share ) as the logs repository?
Regards

Hi,

Yes, you can use UNC path.

You can set smaller maximum log count number and restart veeam services for changes to take effect. That will make your logs to get cleaned up automatically.

Thanks

Thank you for your message.
I reduced the maximum log count number from 10 to 7 but I saved less than 1 GB.
Should I use a smaller number?
What is the smallest number I can set without losing the opportunity to extract logs while asking for support?

Please try to tweak the "total size of uncompressed logs", set it to a twice lower value than it is at the moment. That should make Veeam to compress more logs. Also lowering the maximum log size value should help too.

That depends on how far back in time you want to be able to collect logs. Typically in case of failure support needs the most recent logs, so I think there is no need to keep logs older than 1-2 months, unless you have some security policies in place.

Additionally, it would not harm to double check whether you maximum logging level enabled. With it in place, logs might easily occupy all free space. Thanks.

Hi,

Regarding the "Maximum log count" of https://www.veeam.com/kb1825, what is the exact number of maximum count?

Kind Regards,

Hi Manabu, it is an Int32 value, so is limited by the maximum for this type.
