Restore files from tapes - leave existing perfomanse problem

Post by folerx »

Very strange behavior in restoring files from tape.
1. restore stopped at 2/3 with report that drive wont support hardware encryption :?: .
2. I run again restore job but I check option "leave existing files". Now this process takes 5x longer than copy same files to tape??? :?:
How is possible that file copy is faster than skipping same file?

Hello Daniel,
What tape library do you have?
Could you make sure your library/tape drives support hardware encryption and you have the license for it (if necessary), Vendor drivers installed in non-exclusive mode.
Thanks!

ibm ts3100 with ult3580-hh5 drives. doesn't support hardware encryption. files is encrypted via veeam gui and in tape library i select "application managed encryption".
this work, sometimes. when restoring drive clearly show "decryption" status.
ibm driver 6.2.5.8 in non-exclusive mode.
Problem is that restore start ok and after some time veeam show error. This inconsistency is strange.
Skip speed is around 5 files per sec. :?: On tape is 550.000 files and this process takes forever. build file to restore take 40 min.
I need to restore every tape for verifying before archiving.

Query regarding file presence on a restoration target directory might explain that.
Drive doesn't support hardware encryption.
In tape library i selected "application managed encryption".
Those statements appear to contradict each other. Your drive seems to support hardware encryption.

The possible reason for the said error might have been the fact that tapes had been archived by drive that supports hardware encryption, but the restore went through the one that does not.

Anyway, if you need any assistance with finding the root cause, feel free to reach our support team for further investigation.

Thanks.
