Thoughts on setup

Post by daboss »

Hi Guys,

Just like to get peoples opinion on running Veeam 5.

1. Run in a VM or Physical.
2. If I run in a VM have a VMDK sitting on VMFS on my iscsi backup SAN to store Veeam backup files
or connect to a LUN on my backup SAN with microsoft iscsi initiator and format this LUN with NTFS..

Thanks

David

Hi David, please check out sticky FAQ topic on top of this forum (under New Topic button), it covers your first question in details. NTFS LUN is certainly preferred because of ease of backup data recovery. VMFS is arguably worst possible place to store your backups. It is proprietary, undocumented file system that can only be read by ESX(i) host, and does not have any data recovery tools available for cases when LUN gets corrupted.
