File archiving

Post by artemtao »

Hi!

Do you have a functionality to archive old files to another storage in Backup&Replication or another product?

Thank you.

Do those files reside on a share or are present inside physical or virtual machine? In the latter case it might stand to reason to backup those files, using Veeam Endpoint Backup. Thanks.

No, we use backup, I want an archiving solution which can move files older that 2 years (for example) to Tier 2 storage (and then, maybe apply a different backup policy to this volume). Ideally, users still need to have access to these files, but another option is creating stub files for a searching, and users will be instructed to go to another location to access these old files. Also, I need the option to exclude some files and folders from this archiving policy. I did not file anything like that in File copy jobs.

Thanks for the clarification, Artem.
As Vladimir mentioned, Veeam Backup and Replication is mostly for Virtual infrastructure data protection, for the physical machines we have Veeam Endpoint, which is free, by the way.
File copy job is a straightforward feature which doesn`t have retention policy, so you may try Endpoint jobs if the files you want to copy are inside physical machine.
Different retention for different files doesn`t work inside a single job, so you need to create 2.
Thanks!
