synthetics backup - can I disable it
Hi,
I use a simple retention policy, between 3 and 5 days. So can I disable synthetic backups? I need to save disk space
My understanding is that synthetic backups help reduce long restore times, but my backups will not have more than 3-5 restore points.
Any advice wouls be greatly appreciated
Thanks,

Hi paulie007 and welcome to the community!
Sure, you just need to disable it in the job settings. Once both synthetic and full backups are disabled, the job will use forever forward incremental method.

Thanks Shestakov,
I guess what I meant was, is it ok to do this? what the repercussions/risks associated with this configuration?

Re: synthetics backup - can I disable it
All methods are stable. If you have retention policy = 5 points, with active full backups you will have 5 to 9 restore points and 2 full backups, so if you are short in space it`s recommended to use either reverse incremental or forever forward methods.

Though it's always recommended to test backups recoverability to be on the safe side.
