Azure VCCE storage vault limit?

Post by Kellen.Flood »

Veeam team,

We have an azure subscription and would like to leverage Veeam and vcce for our backups.

Currently we would like to split our usage into 1 Veeam install leveraging 1 Azure subscription but 12 different storage vaults (vms) within the subscription.

Is that possible?

Also within those 12 vaults could we have multi tenancy?

12 regions each with 10 sites. Can we do the above?

Kellen,

Yes, that is possible. Especially since we support Scale-Out Backup Repositories with Cloud Connect now. But you will need version 9.5 for that (And I honestly don't know if the appliance is already updated for 9.5... Besides us updating the marketplace appliance (that is probably done already) there is also a Microsoft verification process and that can take some time...

That being said, it is not because it is called a marketplace appliance that you cannot add additional VMs that server as a repository. All the scale-out architecture goodies that you have on-premises work in Azure also. The only problem you might have is if you deploy in those different regions different networks and subnets. But in that case, it is up to you to make sure the traffic can flow between those regions, which is the same if you would do that on-premises :-)

Hope it helps

Actually you don't even have to use the appliance if you don't want to wait for the new 9.5 version, just deploy the VMs you need and install our software on top, and here you go.

But I have one warning for you: cloud connect gateways are not geo-aware and a pool of gateways cannot be filtered in any way by the tenant, which means that if you deploy 12 gateways one per region, and they are all linked to the same installation, the entire list of gateways will be passed to the tenant side and from here, any connection would be possible, so a tenant in north america for example may even connect to a gateway in australia, and so on. There is no solution at the moment to filter this scope, other than deploying completely separated cloud connect installations.

Or you can still deploy an appliance and update it to 9.5 version using 9.5 installation file. As to updating Marketplace appliance to version 9.5, this operation should take us several weeks from now on. Thanks.

@dellock6 if we were to have 12 different VCCe Installs (1 per region) could we still have a single Veeam (normal on prem) install?
We would be able to have a global view from HQ of all sites via Veeam ONE....Be able to Enterprise Manager or Console each site and still allow local teams to manage their individual regions?
The only thing would be logging into VCC-E 12 times?

Yes, you can have multiple installations managed via the same EM and monitored by the same Veeam ONE. Also, in the future you may be able to group them all together using the Veeam Availability Console.
