Restoring from File to Tape jobs. Are really Full backups?

Hello,

I have Veeam9 and ESXi 5.1


I run backups to tape of a CIFs volumes stored on a netapp datastore.

I only run full backups on weekends, not Incremental backups.
Backups are completed succesfully.

The problem is with restore jobs.
Sometimes when I try to restore some folders from an specific date, Veeam requires 1 or more tapes that were written in other dates. For example, I try to restore a folder that were backed up in the last weekend of March; Veeam is requiring the tapes used in that weekend from March, but also requieres some tapes of the backup of January.

If backups are really full backups, I should have all my data in the tapes used in this job.

I don´t know why Veeam requires tapes from older backups.

This is a worrying situation because once Veeam requiered me a tape from a previous backup, but this tape was expired.

I´ve never have had this issue with other backup tools(for example Symantec Netbackup).

Has anyone had this problem?

Hello Julio,

Can you clarify what are the media set creation options under the Media Pool properties? Do you use tape export on job completion? Thanks.

I'm wondering what happens if you start files restoration wizard and specify the latest backup set explicitly. Thanks.

just had a similar issue.
Want to restore a folder from yesterday, full backup completed fine.
And it's asking me for a tape from 6 months ago?!?!??!?!?!
What am I doing wrong?

Open a ticket with our support team. It's rather hard to speculate regarding the root cause of the described behaviour without seeing debug logs and corresponding infrastructure. Thanks.
