Multiple instances of Veeam Backup Manager and SQL server r

Post by EnerconIT »

We have Veeam 9.0 update 1 running on a VMware Esxi 5.1 environment with a Dell TL2000 Tape drive connected with SAS to a Windows Server 2012 physical server. The Veeam Server on the Esxi 5.1 box locked up and had to be restarted. I checked the services after restart to make sure they all started but noticed that now there are 3 instances of Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe running and 2 separate instances of sqlservr.exe running. One under the Veeamsql2008r2 and the other under the Veeamsql2012 folder. I had to restart a weekly backup after the restart and it completes I will restart the Veeam server again. Just wanted to know if I should see two different versions of SQL running and so many Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe instances running at the same time.

Each job starts its own Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe, including internal Veeam B&R activity (for ex., rescan), so it's ok to see multiple instances of this process. Not sure regarding the SQL processes though, do you have both SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 installed?

Then having two sqlservr.exe processes is also expected.

Is it best practice to have two different versions of SQL or just have one version installed?

Why do you have two of them, to start with? Veeam B&R requires just a single one to host its database.
