Tape Library Automated Drive Cleaning Barcode

Post by JeWe »

Hi all,

we use Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5, I configured Automated Drive Cleaning.
Not sure about the cleaning tape. We put the cleaning tape into the library, my question is: Does the cleaning tape need a barcode? Sure does, or am I wrong?

Regards,
Jens

Hi Jens,

Barcode is not required. However, it’s better to have all the tape media properly labeled to avoid any confusion specifically when ejecting or exporting tape media.

Hi Jens,

more than that I would say using barcode is higly necessary.
Not only for cleaning, but for the complete handling of tapes.
Even more we had some issues here, that where solved by using barcodes.
Yes I know, the dealers like to have a lot of mony for a little bit of printed paper with glue on the backside.
But it's worth every cent.

Hi mike.r,

From software perspective VBR can work with nonbarcoded and barcoded media. The last is of course better in term of tape management but that is not a mandatory from our side.
