vCloud Backup - vApp Network issue
Hi,
we have a vCloud 5.5.6 infrastructure successfully backed up with Veeam 9 update 2.
Recently we have introduced in some VDCs organizations the vApp network feature to isolate the traffic network of a single vApp.
In this configuration, VMs have an internal IP address (vApp network address) and an external IP address (VDC network address).
My first question is: does Veeam support this configuration?
The problem is that when we enable guest file system indexing option, the credential test fails because Veeam try to reach the VM in his internal IP address, that is isolated!
Last, but not least, in our infrastructure network we have one of this subnet used in vApp network defined, so I don't know if it could be a problem for Veeam!
The second question is: when we run guest credential test, how Veeam identify the network of a VM, through vCloud database? Is it possible to force Veeam using the external IP address instead the internal one in this case?
I hope I was clear!
Thank you
Marco

Hi Marco, have you tried to run the actual backup? While credentials test may fail, I wonder whether guest processing was successful during the backup itself. Veeam B&R obtains all the available VM addresses from VMware Tools, and if the first one is not reachable, it should try the second.

Hello Alex,
thanks for your reply.
Yes, we have tried to run the job, and we have received the error "Failed to create indexer. Details: Unable to establish SSH connection with any connection point".
The vCenter see only one IP address, that is the internal IP address of the VM. I think the external IP address is used only by vCloud Director.

Re: vCloud Backup - vApp Network issue
Veeam should try to connect to the VMs using vix, via network there will be no way that the veeam server can connect to the vm running inside an isolated vapp network, unless there's routing in between and/or veeam too is running in the same vapp network.

Hi Luca,
also for Guest OS Index Veeam should try to connect to the VMs (Linux) via VIX? I'm scrolling the job log, there is only SSH connection..(in my last test application-aware processing is disabled)
Anyway, the credential test will always continue to fail in this configuration, isn't it?

Nope, for now there is no such as thing as networkless communication with Linux-based VMs.also for Guest OS Index Veeam should try to connect to the VMs (Linux) via VIX?
