If I have a GFS tape job configured to run monthly on the last Friday of the month then by default it starts at 00:00 on the scheduled day.
However, the info at https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsp ... e_hiw.html says:
"At 00:00 of the day set in the GFS job schedule the GFS job starts and checks periodically if the source job created a backup:"
Does this mean that as of 00:00 it starts watching for new runs of jobs, and if it sees one, it'll then either copy it (if was a full) or synthetically generate a new full (if was incremental)?
In other words, as of 00:00, it isn't going to look at any jobs that already ran the previous night & copy those RPs, UNLESS the source job doesn't run by 00:00 the next day, at which point the GFS job will then synthetically create a new tape-full based on the most recent RP found?
If one of the source jobs is a backup copy job (without any associated GFS retention) which doesn't complete its copy until, e.g. 05:30, then will it pick up that RP rather than wait for the RP that runs/copies that night?

Re: GFS Tape question
Correct. If no new restore points will be created within a day, a GFS backup to tape job will leverage the latest available one.Does this mean that as of 00:00 it starts watching for new runs of jobs, and if it sees one, it'll then either copy it (if was a full) or synthetically generate a new full (if was incremental)?
Also, there is a regkey controlling the said behaviour. Using it, you can set a timeout after which GFS job will check previous days to find suitable GFS candidate. Default value is 24 hours.
Thanks.
