Keep backup chain after permanent failover?
Hi,
I am in the process of moving from one hyper-v cluster (2012 R2) hardware to another using replicas. That is working so far. The only question that I have: Is it possible to keep the VEEAM backup chain of servers that I moved to the new cluster?
Thanks in advance.
Best,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Could you specify the question, please?
You use replicas, but you also have a chain of backups. Is that correct?
If so, you can definitely keep those.

Re: Keep backup chain after permanent failover?
Hi,
just decided to use cluster to cluster live migration instead of replicas. But the question still remains: can I keep the backup chain even if the vms are moved to a new hyper-v cluster?

Re: Keep backup chain after permanent failover?
How those clusters are added to backup console? Via single SCVMM server by any chance? Thanks.

Re: Keep backup chain after permanent failover?
no scvmm. just added the cluster to the veeam console.
Just to clarify myself: I dont have to space for a 2nd full backup, so I would like to continue the backup chain after the VMs have been moved to the new cluster.

Re: Keep backup chain after permanent failover?
Without a controlling entity on top (SCVMM) it won't be possible, as VMs moved between clusters will be treated as new ones.
However, you might reach our support team to check whether there is DB trick (similar to script available for vSphere deployments) that might address the given problem.
Thanks.

Re: Keep backup chain after permanent failover?
Thank you for providing a support ticket ID. Though, be aware that there is no guarantee that a DB workaround similar to vSphere one exists.
