Advanced ReFS Integration

Post by neilmurphy65 »

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the Advanced ReFS Integration included in v9.5 works with Windows 2012 implementations?

Cheers,
Neil.

Is it possibleto get fast cloning and other benefits of ReFS with Veeam B&R 9.5 If I will create ReFS volume on iSCSI lun on a Windows Server 2016 and then use it with a Veeam B&R 9.5 installed on a Windows Server 2012?

Only if the volume is mounted on a 2016 server. It's not clear if you're talking about formatting it on 2016 and then mounting it on 2012R2, if thats what you mean then it wont' mount since 2012R2 doesn't know what ReFS version 3 is

Veeam can use both local and remote storage, so i wouldnt go with iscsi but simply with a remote repository within Veeam. My estimation is that with the latter you still can leverage advanced ReFS integration because the repository is hosted on Windows Server 2016, however i not sure if my estimation is correct perhaps someone from Veeam can shed some light on it.

This won't work, as repository server itself must be running Windows Server 2016. In your case this requirement would not be met, since a repository (backup server) would be running Windows Server 2012.

I think the best idea would be to follow suggestions given by others so far - add Windows 2016 machine as a repository server and get access to all ReFS 3.1 goodies it can boast with.

Thanks.
