Scheduled tape import

We've used Veeam for a many years now, but still used Backup Exec to manage our tape library and dump Veeam backups to tape for for offsite storage. A full backup set goes offsite twice a week.

I just migrated to a new physical backup server and am taking the oppertunity to try and drop Backup Exec and just let Veeam manage my tape. So far so good, but I haven't yet found a way to have Veeam automatically import a tape, since every time we export a tape we also need to import a tape to replace it in the library. It's not really an option to do it manually every time.

Is there a solution to this?

there is such an option.
Importing runs differently for tapes that are registered in the local Veeam backup database and those that are not.
Do you want to import empty tapes, tapes written on this backup server or tapes written on another Veeam server?

In my setup, there 2 VBR servers and one tape library.
The tape backup job is run on one VBR.
Can the tape be imported to another VBR with the same tape library?
Any actions need to be done before import the tape, e.g. export tape?

Yes.

You need to disconnect the library from the first Veeam B&R server (or use maintenance mode) prior connecting it to the second Veeam B&R server because it's not possible to use the same library with two backup servers at the same time (unless the library is partitioned).
