Veeam One Custom report using Business View

Post by Iain_Green »

Hi,

I am trying to create a daily backup report. The report needs to be split in a way that I can't currently do, and I am hoping Business view may be able to help.

The setup is as follows:

Report for our customer (will call customer A) needs to broken down by the customers customers. So the Vcentre we have a resource pool as Customer A then underneath that, we have each of their customers with a separate pool.

Customer A
  • Customer 1
    Customer 2
    Customer 3
Ideally if we had use folders to split them out this would be solved quite quickly however we used folders for OS type for backing up the OS together (i,e, Window folder contains all Windows VMs).

The daily report reports on the whole of Customer A, instead I'd like to create a report for Customer 1 then 2 then 3 and so on, they only way to group them would be if I could select by resource pool. So I though if I could create a dynamic group in business view I could then use that to create the reports?

However I can't work out the logic to creating the report?
Many thanks

Hi Iain,
I would create a category "customer A" with groups "Customer A1", "Customer A2", "Customer A3" etc. and create a rule for each group linking the Business View group with the corresponding resource pool.
This way you will be able to report on specific end customers as well as on your customers.
Thanks!

Excellent, this is what I tried, however I am struggling to be able to select by resource group?
Many thanks

I would create static Business View groups and in the rule wizard choose Object Type = VM, Apply to = desired resource pool.

So I created a Categories named as the main customer. (Object type set to Virtual Machine, Group Type Static).
This appeared in the group section, where I then started creating all the customer groups (Customer 1, Customer 2)

Then using the rules wizard I created 5 rules each identical except pointing to a different customer.

Customer 1
Select object type = Virtual Machine
Infrastructure Node = Customer 1s Resource Pool
Select Type = By Infrastructure Location
Assign this group = Customer 1 group created.

Repeat for a further 4 customers.

In Veeam One Monitor the groups appear and the correct VMs show in the groups. Perfect!

In Veeam Reporter on the daily back report, when I select Business View as the scope the Customer A folder does not appear?
Many thanks

Do you have other categories/groups in the Business View scope of the report?
Try to manually run collection task in Veeam ONE Reporter Configuration > Servers

That is quite a large task, I have one due to run in a couple of hours. Will leave over night and see if they appear once data collection completes.
Many thanks

All right. Let me know if that helps. What about another question:
Do you have other categories/groups in the Business View scope of the report?
Have you also check Business View scopes of other reports (just to narrow down the issue)?
