Isolated Virtual Lab - Copying file between Prod and Lab
Morning,
Silly question but hoping for an answer.
Have a Windows file server on a 31 day backup cycle but on server itself have VSS Shadow Copy setup for 31 days also.
I've stood up an Isolated lab with a DC and the File Server on the 31 day mark which works great and i can then fire up VSS and go back a further 31 days but how can I get the files out of the isolated VM into my production environment?
Is it possible?
Thanks,
Andy

Hi,
I believe this is what you need. Just keep in mind that under no circumstances you should let you virtual lab DC appear in your prod. Also there is another option to get files from the VM - just spin it up via Instant Recovery.
Thanks

How does the instant recovery work for this?
I thought that was just a simpler/quicker way of restoring the server?
So the masquerading IP address makes sense and the routing entry on the backup server.
So on my backup server I have done a "route print" and confirmed the route is present and I have the masquerading IP of the VM is the Lab from the SureBackup job details but when trying to ping the masquerading IP i got no response?

You IR VM without connecting it to network and attach its .vmdk to the production VM and simply copy files from there.
Do you ping it from the backup server or from another machine?

From the Backup server.
Will try to IR method but curious as to why i cant see the masquerading IP.
EDIT - Also just tried firing up the LAB with the proxy internet option in order to gain internet access on the lab machines and that didn't work either, the lab VM''s still have no internet connectivity? I left the port as 8080 and didn't specify a physical proxy as i don't have one. Any reason for this?
Testing the IR method now and will flip the NIC before powering it on.
