Questions on: Health & Backup copy

Post by infused »

Hi Guys.

Couple of questions here:

1. If I want to do 7 day active backup and then implement a 4 week/12 month/2 year rotation I would do the following: Set a new backup job with 7 days retention. Create a backup copy job with 4 weeks/12 month/0 quarterly/2 year as the backup job, correct?

2. Scanning for bad backup chains: If you are using copy jobs, do you need this setup in your main backup job as well? The option I'm talking about is perform backup level health check.

Thanks.

Hi Kirk,

1. That’s correct (e.g. overview of retention policy for weekly backups).
2. You don't need to enable it for the backup job, since these options work separately for each job.

Thanks!

Thanks. So if I have a copy job, I am safe just enabling it on the copy job?

Hi Kirk,

In order to provide best data corruption avoidance, I would recommend you to use Surebackup feature for the main backup jobs, and health check for the backup copy jobs.

Please find detailed information on existing discussion “Add a Backup Copy Job in the SureBackup job

Thanks!
