Shutdown Server for Maintenance without Downtime?

Hello,

we have this system in our environment:
- Server 1: VmServ (Productive)
- Server 2: BackupServ (Storing the Replicas)

Both Server have a internal Harddisk containing Veeam Backups.
It is running under Vmware Essentials without Vmotion. We have Veeam Enterprise Edition. The VMs are replicated once a day.

I have to shut down the Production Server for Maintenance, so I thought I could use Veeam Quick Migration for minimal disruption to our business.
I tried it with a Test VM, but then there was a problem:

The Name of my VM on VmServ is "TestVM", the name of the Replication "TestVM_replica". Migration creates a new VM ("TestVM") on the BackupServ and renames the original in "TestVM_migrated" (optionally deletes it).
If I do this for all my VMs, I have in short time the double number of VMs on BackupServ (all Replications and Migrations).

Is there a better way to do this?
Maybe starting the replicated VMs, synchronizing the latest Differences, shutdown the original VMs and later vice versa.
Or migrating it to "TestVM_replica"?

Hi Ernschd,

I would recommend you to use Planned Failover, since you have replicated you VMs to the BackupServ.
After you complete the maintenance process on the production host you can start the Failback process.
