Retention Policy

Post by mohammedrabia »

Dear Team

I have misunderstanding about retention policy with Veeam backup, currently we are using forever forward incremental backup retention policy for our VMs with 7 backup restore points for each one, please explain for me how I can set the retention policy after 7 restore points and allow the oldest incremental backup to be deleted.

Best Regards,

Hello Mohammed and welcome to the community!
With forever forward retention, the backups should be deleted automatically. Doesn`t it happen in your case?
Are you sure you have no full backups scheduled?
Thanks!

I thought that i have to set the retention policy manually, ok what is the best scenario for backup mode (Active backup or Synthetic or Forever forward incremental backup) ? and also what to do if i want to take automatically backup every 3 weeks ?

It depends on your goal. General recommendation is to use forever forward incremental with Surebackup verification.
Thanks!
