Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Hi,
I have succesfully used Veeams (I know it is not officially supported) Vcenter migration tool when we have installed new vcentters. I have now situation that we have three veeam servers and we should attach new vcentter and we are using Veeam 9.5 version. The tool seems not be working with the 9.5 version.
When the tool runs "prepareformigration" task, it says "Error: Column 'object_name' does not belong to table. Apparently the tables in SQL database are changed after upgrade? Is it possible to you in Veeam update this tool to support Veeam 9.5?
BR,
Ari

Hi Ari, changes in Veeam B&R databases between releases are pretty common. I will check with the tool authors on whether it is possible to update it to the new version.

That would be great! Because now we are "on hold" with the Vcenter migration. Hoping to hear from you soon!

It is planned to add Veeam B&R v9.5 and vSphere 6.5 support to this tool, though I do not have any ETA.

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Hmm I got caught out with this too. I acknowledge it is an unsupported tool but nothing in the docs says what versions of VC or Veeam it supports. I now have to move all my hosts and vms back to the old VC. A ETA would be really helpfull
Cheers

Us too. We need the tool to migrate to v6.5 with a clean install of vCenter. Until then we will have to wait.

Not yet, it will take some time for original developer to modify the algorithm. Thanks.

Any updates? We have moved to a new Vcenter appliance 6.5 with Veeam 9.5 update 1 and found the tool doesn't work.

Not even "about 1 year", "about 6 months" or "within the quarter"?
We need this tool as well in order to move forward.

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Well, from what I know I don't expect this will take very long to update for 9.5, probably we are talking weeks?
Vladimir, can you please discuss with the devs responsible to get some rough estimation for planning purposes?

Based on the rough estimations, it should be available within one month.

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
It's a shame that there is no note regarding 9.5 incompatibilities on the KB2136 page.
I just started preparation and migration between vCenter 6.0 servers and stumbled upon "Error: Column 'object_name' does not belong to table."
Then I found out this topic...
Please update it:
KB ID: 2136
Products: Veeam Backup & Replication
Version: 8.0.0.2084, 9.x

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Same here: in https://www.veeam.com/kb2136 is nothing written and only a support case told me that it is incompatible. Now the migration project in which Iam in is on hold as it is not possible to "remap" all VMs. Hope a fix is near

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Looks strange, as the note regarding tool not support vSphere 6.5 has been there for a while:
Anyway, we're working on this at the moment. Chances are, tool will be enhanced to support vSphere 6.5 in the foreseeable future.

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Hi,
you are right, this hint is given, but just clearify, the problem is the Veeam 9.5 DB structure and not vsphere 6.5 for this tool as far as the support told me. So a migration like Aamartin wrote should have worked according to the kb notes, right?

The tool updates records in Veeam B&R database, in case database structure changes, the tool needs to be updated to reflect the changes.

At least to me, it's more important to have support for B&R 9.5 than vSphere 6.5...v.Eremin wrote:Anyway, we're working on this at the moment. Chances are, tool will be enhanced to support vSphere 6.5 in the foreseeable future.

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
We are migrating to vSphere 6.0 u2 (not 6.5) and planned to use the tool only to realise it doesn't work with Veeam B&R 9.5. Is it supposed to work with 9.5? Is there a manual workaround or support assisted method we can use as unfortunately we cant wait for the tool to be released?

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
Would be great if this functionality could be merged in to the B&R product. Waiting myself on a 6.5 replacement vcenter with veeam 9.5 already in place.

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
All, the new version of the vCenter Migration Tool with support B&R 9.5 and vSphere 6.5 has been signed off by QC yesterday. Support already has the new bits, and I assume they will be updating the KB article with the new download soon. Thanks!

Re: Veeam 9.5 and Vcenter migration tool
I called support yesterday afternoon and tried to get a copy of the tool, and couldn't. I really need this before the weekend. I have 20 TB of backups that are copy-jobbed offsite and I can't start those fresh. Backups aren't running until then.
