Event Viewer

Post by ober72 »

Hi Folks,

Is it possible to setup an alarm in VeeamOne based windows event viewer result?

I found a few things about this but it was lacking in detail.

Thanks

Hi Geoff,

Yes you can, the procedure is written here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/one/a ... tml?ver=95

Hi Geoff,
Besides the way Mike`s suggested, you may also create an alarm from Tasks&Events tab in Veeam ONE Monitor. Just find the event and create a related alarm.
Thanks!

Thanks Mike and Nikita,

I want to see if I can through powershel create an event by say connecting to AD or exchange port and then have that event get got by Veeamone if unsuccessful. I believe that in Surebackup jobs testing AD and Exchange is done in a similar manner i.e. seeing if the port for the services is listening. Don't know how realistic this is but worth a try.

That doesn`t sound realistic. Here is how Veeam ONE collects events:
  • All vSphere events. I.e. everything you can see in vSphere client can be used for Veeam ONE rule
  • Some Hyper-V events. Not all of them because there are lots of useless ones which are filtered not to load traffic and DB
  • All generated Veeam Backup Events.
You may review Tasks&Events tabs in Veeam ONE console to understand if the alarm is collected by Veeam ONE.

If you want other events to be collected and used as a trigger, this thread is the best place to discuss the feature request.

Ok thanks Nikita.. It was a long shot. I see in other threads that there might be some hope for VeeamOne 10 to monitor some guest processes.

That`s correct, but it relates only to Guest OS services and processes so far.
Could you specify the events you want to track with Veeam ONE?
Thanks!

AD, Exchange, something like what surebackup jobs do to test that these services are working properly, and yes come guess processes (applications).

Thanks

AD and Exchange events are pretty far away for now, but if you provide more details to the request, it will help us a lot.

We can include Surebackup-related events to one of the upcoming releases if they can be useful.
There are existing Surebackup job - related alarms already. Could you elaborate on the use case when you need particular events?
Thanks

Hi Nikita,

This would be a very basic alarm if AD stopped working or exchange which I believe can be achieved by simply checking if the port 389 and 25 are listening on the given VM's. I think if I am not mistaken that when the sure backup job brings up AD and exchange (Sql too) it does something like this and if the ports are listening gives a success. Here the port was no longer listening the alarm would send an email. The check could be setup at a desired interval.

That indeed is to be resolved by the service state alarms.

If something goes wrong during Surebackup, it is shown by the job`s result and explained in the details.
