Esxi version question

If I have two hosts that I am replicating between, do they have to be the same version of Exi ? Could say the host I am replicating from be running Esxi 6.0 and the host I replicating to be running Esxi 5.5?

So long as the target host supports source VM's virtual hardware version, any version to any version will work.
