SAN LUNs + Storage Pool + ReFS - Thoughts?

Post by Ctek »

Hi,

I am experimenting with W2016 Storage Pool + ReFS 64K for backup repository. I am planning to use 10TB LUNs from a high-density SAN to pool them for 50-100TB repositories. This is in a situation where SOBR isn't available and that SAN does not like 10+ LUNs in case you are wondering.

Is anyone here have some experience with Windows Storage Pool for 50TB+ Veeam Primary repositories?

If you are talking about Storage Spaces, then this setup is explicitly not supported by Microsoft as Storage Spaces require direct access to hard drives (so you cannot have RAID controllers or anything else in between).

Why not just make a couple of 50-100TB LUNs from the SAN directly?

Or why not stripe them with classic windows disk manager disk striping (not Storage Spaces)... We do that all the time...

Because then you will lose inline error correction that Storage Spaces provide in conjunction with ReFS.
