Windows 10 Guest OS in Hyper-V 2012R2

Post by seb2020 »

Hello,

I have a question about Windows 10 guest OS in Hyper-V 2012R2. I am using Veeam Backup and Replication 9.

All of my W10 not backup correctly with AAIP. I have this error :

Code: Select all

23.08.2016 06:43:44 :: Guest processing skipped (check guest OS VSS state and hypervisor integration components version)
23.08.2016 06:43:44 :: Failed to create snapshot (Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0) (mode: Crash consistent) Details: Failed to prepare guests for volume snapshot.
Can you tell me if Windows 10 is correctly supported ? I have found this link https://www.veeam.com/kb1855 but it's look like an old version.
Do I need to use the AAIP for Windows 10 ? This is just simple VM with simple services running on it, with no SQL, no Exchange on it.

Thanks !

Yep, it is.

It's recommended indeed to backup any Windows-based VM with AAIP option enabled.
All of my W10 not backup correctly with AAIP. I have this error.
Can you tell me whether the integration services are installed correctly and what's the state of VSS writers?

By the way, have you contacted our support team already?

Thanks.

Hello,

I have try with two Windows 10 :

Code: Select all

 PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-VM | ft Name, IntegrationServicesVersion

Name IntegrationServicesVersion
---- --------------------------
SRVSMS-01 10.0.10011.16384
SRVWEBAPP-02 10.0.14393
In the Event Viewer log of the Hyper-V server, I have found this :
Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor failed to connect to virtual machine 'SRVSMS-01' because the version does not match the version expected by Hyper-V (Virtual machine ID 95235C40-4F96-4053-83F4-343436FF5F3F). Framework version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (3.0); Message version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (5.0). To fix this problem, you must upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.
I didn't have contacted the support team because we are running a trial edition for the moment. We are going to buy the Veeam Backup Essentials at the end of the trial

You can contact our technical support even when running trial version too. Seems like integration services is the problem here.

But what about upgrading Integration Services? Have you tried to do that, as suggested by message? Thanks.

You need to right click on the VM and check if integration services are installed or not/check their status.

Hi,
We have a 2016 quest VM on a 2012 (Not R2) cluster and experience the same issue.
Anybody has a fix for this?
Thanks

John,

I'm afraid a 2016 guest VM is not supported on a 2012 Hyper-V node: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/lib ... s.11).aspx

Cheers
Mike
