feature request

Post by cama »

Hello Veeam support,
I'd like to open a feature request, because we ran in the following problem. A "file to tape"-job backed up sucessfully files and folders with a length more than 260 characters. But during recovery of these files the following error stopps the attempt.

Code: Select all

[17.04.2017 14:41:45] < 10932>      >>  |Exception from server: boost::filesystem::create_directory: The filename or extension is too long: "X:\xxxxx\yy\xxxxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"
For sure, it's a limitation of the Windows explorer, but as Veeam is able to backup the paths, it should be able to recover the backed up files. There is a workaround with the command subst or the relocation into \\server\c:. With Windows 10 or later a registry key disables the max path lenght of Windows.
Thanks a lot inadvance.

Hi cama,

Thanks for sharing your case. Can you please elaborate if the said registry key helps to resolve the restore issue?
