Surebackup and Windows 2008R2 Domain Controllers

Post by McClane »

Hi,

I have some difficulties while testing Surebackup.
My test environment has 2 dc's. A 2008R2 and and 2008. I have a SureBackup Job with the 2008R2 in my application group.
Once I start the job the DC goes into recovery mode as expected. Problem is, it takes a while (about 5 minutes) till it restarts after recovery. But I see that Surebackup already does its tests (heartbeat, ping and also scripts) which will fail since the server is not ready yet.

Shouldn't it wait till the DC is ready before starting the tests?

Hello,

You may increase Startup timeout settings in the Application Group advanced settings: Edit Application Group -> Virtual Machines -> Edit -> Startup Options -> Startup Time, should help.

Also provided that you link any backup job to your SureBackup job, you may also adjust those timeout settings on the backup jobs tab (Edit -> Startup Options -> Startup Time).

Thanks!

A little update. I increased the application timeout to 10 minutes so the server had the chance to complete the restore and reboot. I guess Veeam cannot determine the point when the DC is ready and just waits for a couple of minutes after the restore and then goes on with its scripts.

Automatic retry would be a good idea I think.
