Purge SQL database

Post by Rod78 »

Hi,
What would be the best thing to do when you reach the SQL Express limitation of 10GB. Upgrading to standard is not an option for us right now.
I'm seeing this error and I'm having trouble starting the GUI as it complain with the same error below

Now using SQL Studio Manager shows me the biggest tables in the db

Which tables are ok to purge and how? Or can I just create a new DB and how do I do that correctly? What happens with my backups if I start using a new db?
btw, I have decreased the session history (whatever that is) in Enterprise Manager, from default 53 weeks to 40. I then performed a Shrink using SQL Studio Manager and the db actually went down from 10GB to 9,5GB. That helped so I now at least can start the GUI
