VMware intermittent error ?
Hi All,
Can anyone please shed some light on this recurring VMware backup that always happens to my random VM ?
Creating VM snapshot Error: Unable to access file snapshot
Unable to release guest. Error: VSSControl: Failed to freeze guest, wait timeout

Since this messages happens to random VMs, I would recommend to check datastore where these VMs are located. Does it have enough IOPs, what's the latency?
Additionally, what does Windows Event log show for these VMs?

Re: VMware intermittent error ?
Hi Vitaliy,
I cannot create the VM clone as well for some of the VM in this backup job either.
The VM is a Linux VM and it also have VMware tools running.

This fact as well as the random nature of the issue tell it is most likely an environmental issue.albertwt wrote:I cannot create the VM clone as well for some of the VM in this backup job either.

If you browse the datastore where this VM is located do you see any snapshots by any chance? Additionally, please review VM log files stored next to VMX file for more info.

Re: VMware intermittent error ?
OK, it turns out to be the VCenter server is having the issue.
Rebuilding the server, fix this problem.
Thanks all for the guidance .
