Feature Request: Native AWS S3 / Azure storage support
It would be really nice if Veeam supported AWS S3 / Azure Storage / Google Nearline natively.
Even better would be global dedupe when storing data in those clouds.

What backup data size do you have in mind for this functionality? Our current "experiments" with public cloud, such as Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure functionality, show that performance of backing up directly to object storage is very poor.

Large amounts of data (5TB backups, 100TB+ raw repository).
Ideally, functionality similar to StorReduce would be nice.
I'm pretty sure RapidRecovery and Commvault (and probably more) are already doing this.

+1 to this request.
If not direct backup, maybe an addition to the GFS Backup Copy Job ?

Yes, Rapid Recovery (AppAssure), Commvault, BackupExec, cTera...are all doing this. And the list is growing daily.mongie wrote:Large amounts of data (5TB backups, 100TB+ raw repository).

Before this starts a performance of restore discussion, I agree that one should not use a public cloud based object store for primary recovery. However a tertiary (or even secondary) copy is an appropriate use case. Especially if on-prem, Enterprise object storage is already in your shop for other use cases.
I would add a YEA vote to this feature request.
Thanks
Gary

Re: Feature Request: Native AWS S3 / Azure storage support
Sorry to hijack and old thread but can someone confirm that Veeam Cloud Connect does not have a native interface to AWS S3? Based on my research, it would appear that you Veeam Cloud Connect will talk to AWS S3 only through the Amazon Storage Gateway (not directly to S3). Can someone confirm this?
