Direct Access Transport mode

Post by albertwt »

Hi All,

Can anyone please share some steps and example of how does the fastest backup transport method works ?

Direct Access: Veeam reads/write data directly from/to the storage system where VM data or backup are located. But this mode requires a physical proxy server.

Does this mean I need to install the VBR on a physical server and then, it utilize the Storage Array snapshot for the SAN where all of my source VMs are running ?

Hi Albertwt,

You don't need to install VBR completely on a physical server. Only the proxy role. It is not even necessary for the proxy to be physical but the performance won't be optimal. What happens is that the data that is needed won't pass the network and ESXi hosts but will travel over the SAN so it won't put that additional load on production systems.

I am not sure if I follow your last question. Do you want to use backup from storage snapshot? What storage are you using?
