Directly connected HP P2000G3 SAS SAN as a backup repository

We are about to replace an old P2000 G3 SAN (with dual SAS controllers) with a newer generation storage array for our VMware cluster. As there will be no better use for the P2000 we thought about repurposing it as a larger and higher-performance backup repository directly connected to our baremetal Veeam backup server (via a SAS HBA). However the documentation on supported backup repositories states:

Microsoft Windows server with local or directly attached storage. The storage can be a local disk, directly attached disk-based storage (such as a USB hard drive), or iSCSI/FC SAN LUN in case the server is connected into the SAN fabric.

A "SAS SAN" is not explicitly mentioned (only "iSCSI/FC SAN"). Is a SAS-connected SAN storage counted in the "directly attached disk-based storage" category and therefore a viable backup repo? Should such a setup be possible in Veeam B&R (considering all the underlying hardware is compatible)? Does anyone have any experience with something similar enough?

Yes, SAS is local disk.
