Server 2012 Storage Pool as Repo

Post by cookiejc »

Hi, sorry if this is a repeated question I have tried to search.

Im having to urgently make some backup repositories due to a failed appliance.

Im using FC SAN presented volumes onto Physical Server 2012 servers but have a per volume size limit of 16TB. Im thinking of using Server 2012 Storage Pools to aggregate multiple volumes into a single logical volume to provide a larger drive for Veeam backups

Are there any issues performance or otherwise with doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

We tried something similar when using VM's for the repository and the 2TB VMDK limit in ESXi 5.0

I can comment on the performance, but i found overall management and maintenance a pain.

Have you thought of using SOBR? (Scale Out Backup Repository). Essentially this provides you the similar functionality by storing different backups on different volumes/partitions. The only difference is you are allowing Veeam to manage this process rather than Windows

Cheers

Thanks for the response

I initially looked at Scale Out Repo but we're on Enterprise rather than Enterprise Plus which makes it too limited unfortunately!

I guess technically the storage pools will work, i would be interested to see the throughput before and after though
