Take backup on Azure and Office 365

Post by Ultra_Cool »

Hi Everyone,

I would like to ask if it is possible to take backup on Azure VMs with latest Veeam? Can we take a backup on Sharepoint in Office 365 or onedrive? I found that we are able to take backup on office 365 exchange and to save backups locally? is that true?

Correct, as long as you stick to Veeam Agent for Windows.

Right now, no.

Hi Eremin,

Can I backup Azure VMs with Veeam backup and replication? You are speaking about agent for windows but I am thinking of Veeam B&R 9.5

This is not possible with VBR since we can not access the hypervisor layer. This is why we developed the Veeam Agents, not only to backup physical machines but also cloud (virtual) machines.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. So you mean that we need to install Veeam agent into every VM in cloud? Can we save backup locally?

Today you can already save those backups to a VBR backup repository. This will require a VPN or expressroute. Another possibility is to use Cloud Connect so that those agents store the data over that technology to a cloud repository.

As we announced at VeeamON, we will have integrated management for these agents in VBR soon which will make things even more easier

Correct. You can do this automatically, using Veeam Availability Console (check VCSP forum for download link).

Since you're after Azure VMs backup, it might be worth storing backups in Azure as well. Install a backup server in Azure and leverage it as a agent backup target.
