Case # 02197985 Cannot Create Recovery Media

Post by LawrencefromEastVan »

Hoping somebody can please offer some assistance.

Here is my issue.

1. I have a virtualized Windows 2012 (non R2) server.

2. VEEAM Endpoint Backup

3. I go to make a Recovery Media and it nags about Windows ADK.

4. I then installed Windows ADK and it still nags about it.

5. It keeps me the option to path to the Windows 2012 install DVD, which I do.

6. Support offered these tips and either I did them wrong...or they did not work:

1. Download and install Windows AIK (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=5753). AIK is for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2, but ADK for Windows 8 is only compatible with Windows 2012, while ADK for Windows 8.1. is compatible with Windows 2012 R2 2. Add new registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup\DismPath (STRING) and provide full path to dism.exe that in the AIK. 3. Add registry value (DWORD) "ForceUseAdkForRecoveryMedia" = 1 (decimal)

Hey Lawrence,

First: Welcome to the forums!
Second: Can you recheck for those registry items that you created? 1 little mistake in it and it doesn't work so...

1. You downloaded the ADK for windows 8? (The link in your message points me to windows 7 AIK so just checking that you have the right one)
2. You went to the registry, and browsed to the following location

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup
Then you added a new STRING value which is called

Code: Select all

DismPath
and then typed the full path to dism.exe in that key?

And finally, in the same directory you created a new DWORD value which called

Code: Select all

ForceUseAdkForRecoveryMedia
and changed that value to 1

If you have confirmed this, and it still doesn't work, then you need to go back to support

Cheers
Mike

I have done that, however my issue might be that I am not sure what path to choose since I have several dism.exe files on my server:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\amd64\DISM
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\DISM
c:\windows\system32
c:\windows\syswow64
c:\programfiles\windows alk\tools\amd64\servicing
c:\programfiles\windows alk\tools\x86\servicing
c:\programfiles\windows alk\tools\servicing
c:\programfiles\windows alk\tools\x86\servicing
C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-d..ervicing-management_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_b7734a7c9770a13d
C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-d..ervicing-management_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_b7734a7c9770a13d

It is a 64 bit operating system. Do you know which path I should use?

Thanks, Lawrence

I will try that route again. I did email them yesterday and they sent a suggestion, it also didn't work. I then replied to that affect and have not heard back from them as of yet.
