Question regarding SOBR

Post by max4 »

Hi,

we plan to use the data locality policy. What will happen when an extend gets full with this policy (Without the “perform full backup when required extent is offline” option)?

Will the job fail?

Best regards
Max

Veeam Backup & Replication checks the presence of the extent and fails the job if the extent is not available.

prevent this by enabling the “perform full backup when required extent is offline” option in advanced settings of the corresponding extent. This way the program starts over the backup chain and creates an active full backup file when the necessary extent is not available. Remember you are trading backup completion with additional consumed space with this option.

Hi Michael,

thanks for your quick and adequate reply. Is a "near full" the same as not available? What i mean is wether the job fails anyway when the option is not checked and although the extend is online (but full)?

Best regards

If there is other extent with adequate amount of free space, a backup file will be placed there. Basically, a policy will be violated, but broken policy is better than no backup. Thanks.

Note there were some issues initially with SOBR in 9.0 which meant in some cases what Vladimir mentioned may not happen. Please make sure you are on 9.5u2.
