Oracle Backup - Howto handle crash recovery ?

Post by cxwsrei »

Hi all

I´m testing oracle backup - works.
But what about crash recovery ?
Example:
Made a backup at 11:00.
Database got lost at 15:00, needs a full recovery (restore).
Log files that has been generated after 11:00 until 15:00 are still available.
Restore works (tested) but logs after 11:00 has been deleted !?!
But I like to recover the database until the point in time it got lost (15:00).
How to handle this ?

If the logs are still available, you can replay them on VM restored from image level backup, using Oracle native tools.

If logs have been captured by VB&R (oracle logs backup job), feel free to replay them, leveraging Veeam Explorer for Oracle.

Thanks.

I see. I can replay all logs THAT ARE UNDER CONTROL by veeam.
Consequently it depends on the frequency to backup database log files setup in the backup job which logs can be used for recovery.
"Only" log files that are already on the OS level but still has not been backed up by veeam cannot be replayed (when for a restore veeam is used).
In this case I consider my question as answered.
Thank you for the feedback.

Correct, logs that have been backed up by backup server can be replayed by backup server. Anything happened outside of backup server is out of its control. Thanks.
