No space left on device (when there is)

Post by sixpack »

After moving about 100 mailboxes to our Exchange VM, we're getting the following failure half way through a replication job:

Replicating file "[RAID10] CHEX3/CHEX3_4-flat.vmdk" BackupDisk failed Client error: No space left on device POSIX: Failed to write data to the file [/vmfs/volumes/4b0ef9e9-e8478340-836f-0025b31fee7c/VeeamBackup/CHEX3(16)/2010-01-30T005914.vrb]. Server error: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host Failed to process VM disk backup. VMDK path: [vddk://<vddkConnSpec><viConn name="chvm3.chime.net" authdPort="902" vicPort="443" /><vmxPath vmRef="16" datacenterRef="ha-datacenter" datacenterInventoryPath="ha-datacenter" snapshotRef="16-snapshot-240" datastoreName="RAID10" path="CHEX3/CHEX3.vmx" /><vmdkPath datastoreName="RAID10" path="CHEX3/CHEX3_4.vmdk" /><transports seq="san;nbd" /><readBuffer size="2097152" /></vddkConnSpec>].

The source and destination are running the latest version of VSphere.

The total size of the source VM is 601GB, consisting of 3 x 150GB disks and some smaller ones.
The destination volume is 1.09TB and has 650GB free, the existing replica is 601GB.

I can't seem to find any evidence of there being a disk space problem. The replica is failing at 360GB of 601GB with a disk space error, but there is enough space.

What is the cause of this? Can you suggest a solution?

Hello Andrew, it would be best if you open support case and provide full logs for investigation to our technical staff. Generally it is impossible to troubleshoot issues like that from just session summary error. Thank you.

Hi,
I am experiencing the same issue. Did you get a resolution for this?

Thanks!

Greg, if you are asking me - I do not know, since am not involved with technical support. Original poster never updated the post with resolution or at least support case number, so I cannot look this up for you unfortunately. Please contact our support and reference this thread - this may help them to locate the previous support case and see what the resolution was. Thank you.

Since (despite my hints) no one above posted their support case number, I cannot check on solution unfortunately...

There are really no free space on local storage. There are 2010-12-27T100044.vrb file inside of VM directory (it's about 50 GB). What is it?

Replica restore point from the date and time reflected in the file name.
