VMWare Optimization Questions

Post by mtrohde »

I have two questions about the way VEEAM One Reporter does some of its reporting.

1) For the "Oversized VMs" and "Undersized VMs" what is the threshold the report is using to determine what qualifies as under or oversized in terms of CPU and Memory?

2) When VEEAM One Reporter collects its data what if any averaging of the historic data does it do? For example if generate a report on Memory utilization and have it look at 3 months of data. Does the data that is 1 day old compared to the data 3 months old have the same number of datapoints? In VMWare the older data would have been averaged to reduce number of data points and save space. Does VEEAM do the same and if so in what way.

Welcome to the community, Michael!
The reports analyze historical performance and configured resource allocation to provide recommendations for an optimized VM configuration and allocation of resources. Historical performance data is aggregated into 2 hours intervals.
Then we consider CPU and Memory usage and for instance you have VM with 8 vCPUs, but max CPU usage is 40% we recommend to allocate 8*0.4*1.25= 4 vCPUs, where 1.25 is a 25% buffer.
