no new files to backup per job settings (tape)

Post by infused »

Just trying to figure out how this works.

I've got a GFS media pool with just 12 monthly (0 for everything else). I have it based off a backup job which just keeps two weeks on disk. Do I need to move this to a full month? I've tried backing up the backup copy job of this backup which has 3 months and it does the same thing. What would be the right setup in this case?

Hi,
it`s not necessary to set month-long retention for the primary job - tape GFS job will copy latest full backup to tape.
Thanks!

You mean the normal to disk job I have going? I shouldn't have a full backup job (sunday or whatever) configured?

I was answering this question:

You may have full backups scheduled, it will not affect tape GFS.

Ok. I've changed all the settings, I'm still not getting any new files created. Even if I run a full backup on my disk based job.

If there is no new files on disks, nothing is to be written on tape.
If there are new files, I would double-check "source" in the job wizard and then right-click on the tape job and manually run weekly GFS. In a case still nothing is written on tape, it`s better contact the support team.
Thanks!

Yeah, I don't get what's happening though. The jobs are linked. Full backups and incremental are running from the primary job, but the tape doesn't see any new files? Doesn't make sense.

I would suggest to open a support case. Once you do, please provide the case number.

I solved my issue fyi. Found the tape job sits there until a backup is run. I can't see this anywhere in the documentation.
