Public Folder Backup for Office 365
Hello All
I have installed and been testing the beta for the office 365 backup and it's fantastic... Very much a product I will be recommending to all of my clients.
I would love to see this tool backing up the public folders too. Now that they are all stored inside public folder mailboxes rather than a mail store, I would hope that this would be an easy additon to make.
Can anyone tell me if this functionality in on the current development timeline?
Thanks
Richard

Richard,
Usually we do not share road maps, but given that this FR gets more demand, it can certainly make it to the release (much quicker).
Thanks for your feedback!

I too would find this incredibly valuable. It is a deal killer for us not having support for Public Folders as many of our clients rely heavily on them. When vetting cloud backup providers, that was the make it or break it and only 2/20+ vendors had full support for them (and we chose them both). I would love to drop them for Veeam as having an on-prem backup and export to PST is tremendous.

Agreed... Being able to backup public folders for clients would be fantastic and woudl enable them to keep everything inside the veeam suite.

Having just gone through a public folder nightmare with Office 365, it would have been very beneficial to have the public folders backed up in Veam!

This is a genius idea. Much needed and would be great to be able to push this system onto many clients with great effect. Great idea Richard!!!

Re: Public Folder Backup for Office 365
I have a lot of clients who are heavy users of public folders, and already using Veeam to back up their virtual environment. The backing up of public folders feature would be a requirement if they were to adopt this product.

Re: Public Folder Backup for Office 365
I haven't had that as a requirement just yet. Microsoft are still officially supporting public folders and at last check they said they have no plans to get rid of them, however, it does seem that they have been making it a bit more difficult to administer over the past few years...
The problem is that so many SME's have been using public folders as an integral part of their working practice so moving them to sharepoint is not really an option. Having veeam backup the public folders in the same way they backup the mailboxes would be fantastic.

+1 for public folder support from a partner I recently visited. They have some customers with public folders.

has this made it into the release? I don't think our PFs are backupped yet and I don't seem to be able to find an option to do so.

Mike,
Is there any word on when any updates are coming to the current release. We've been trying hard to not purchase an alternative for months now and I'm not sure how much longer I can hold off so any insight would be terrific! Public Folders specifically are huge for us and any other changes are welcome.
Thanks!

Re: Public Folder Backup for Office 365
We are looking into this functionality. We are not yet sure when we can deliver to be honest but it is on our radar. The problem with Public folders is that they should have died some time ago (at least Microsoft would have wanted that
) and that the technology behind it differs from mailbox and the way you need to back it up.. But we are investigating and I hope that I can bring positive news soon. But for now, it is still not known.
For the release date. I am hoping to deliver the beta (as said at VeeamON) before end of this month

Re: Public Folder Backup for Office 365
I have just installed 1.5 beta but don't see the option to backup Public Folders.
I see the PF mailboxes 1 - x but not the actual top level yellow folders as I would expect.
Do these public Folders have to be mail enabled before they are seen?
Can anyone advise please?

You can select Public Folders in the mailboxes list at the Select Mailboxes step of the wizard.

Hi Foggy,
Thanks for the response.
In the Mailboxes list wizard, I only see the user mailboxes.
I can confirm that I am running 1.5.0.792

And what is the Exchange version? Public folders are supported for versions starting Exchange 2013 and for Exchange Online (O365).

Re: Public Folder Backup for Office 365
It's Exchange Online (O365).
I have used a Global Admin admin account for permissions and on setup, passed with all green ticks at setup.
I can see all the user mailboxes as well as the Public Folder mailboxes but not the Public Folders.

Re: Public Folder Backup for Office 365
Ok, if you see Public Folders mailboxes, then this is expected. Somehow I missed this from your initial post, sorry. Public Folders themselves will be visible when you open the backup in Veeam Explorer for Exchange.
