Move backup copy files to new storage

Post by dib »

Hi

Can you use this guide https://www.veeam.com/kb1729 to move backup copy files to new location? Or do you have to use seeding as this guide shows https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsp ... liary.html

I would like to keep the backup chain, if possible.

Hope some one can clear this for me.

Ok I'll try to copy the backupcopy files to the new repository, and then change the repository in the backupcopy job it self.

Hope that work and will keep the backup chains.

Yes, the chains should be continued, provided you do everything right.

Just copied the files to the new repository and pointed the BCJ to it. Everything works fine.

Thanks for your help.

[MERGED] safe way to move job between repositories

Post by bjdboyer »

Non scale-out repositories. What is a consistent way to move a backup job from one repository to another without losing anything?

I have done this:

1. disable the backup copy job
2. Move the \backups job directory to the other repository volume (same server different disk)
3. re-scanned both repositories. The first re-scan of the destination repository gave me errors that the backup directory couldn't be sync'd. I ran the scan again and got no errors. I did the re-scan on the source repository first then the target.
4. I then re-mapped the backup copy job to the new repository/directory.

when the backup copy job ran again there were errors and I had to run a new active full. This has happened twice in the last week when I had to move jobs around to make space.

I can't use the scale-out because we have to be able to had the customer their backup data if they request it. We are an MSP with a managed backup offering.

TIA,
Bill

Hi Bill,

You can preserve the backup chain and continue with the incremental run.
Check this thread as it contains helpful links about backups migration to the new repository.
Please contact technical support in case of any errors during the migration. Thanks!

[MERGED] Best Way to Cleanly Move 10TB Copy Job Repository

Post by tthomas1@ebsco.com »

Hello,

I need to move a 10TB Veeam repository from a LUN on one storage system to a LUN on a different storage system. The new (destination) LUN will be attached to the same Windows system as the source LUN. This repository is only used as a Backup Copy target for two offices. Can someone point me in the right direction as to the cleanest way to make this transition?

Hello,
I merged your question to an existing topic. It was one of the first Google hits and it is still valid.

Best regards,
