Feature Request: Retry Sucessful notification

Post by dflood »

I'd like to suggest that the "sometime in the future" list have an additional notification added. Right now the system provided a reasonably nice system of notifying when there's a backup failure but there isn't a follow-up notification when a retry is successful.

I know that there is "notify on success" but I don't need to know about every success, I just would like to have something that matches the "this try failed" emails.

Thanks,

Hello David and welcome to the community!
Could you clarify your request?
If retry finishes with success there will be no more retries thus no notifications. Or you mean that instead of getting notification about every job, you like to receive an email with a list of job results?
Thanks!

I understand this and would also welcome an option to only notify on success for jobs which had an initial failure and subsequent retry.

Also sometimes backup copy jobs and endpoint agent jobs can get stuck in a perpetual retry loop, would be good to have an email alert for any job exceeding three retries.

Shestakov,

I think you have the right idea but here's how I would pseudo-code it:

If Failure -> Send Failure Email and schedule Retry (already in place)
If Retry Fails -> Send Failure Email and schedule another Retry until limit is reached (already in place)
If Retry Succeeds -> Send Retry Success email (new step)

That way if I see one or more Failure Emails I also should have a matching Retry Success email..or I have to go into the system and figure out what went wrong, fix it, and do a manual retry..

David, are you positive the successful retry notification doesn't come? Do you have the 'Success' check box enabled in notification settings?

Foggy,

The overall Success Notification is very definitely NOT checked. Our setup is stable enough but large enough that I don't need to add more emails to the over 300-500 I get nightly from a combined trio of backup solutions (one solution sends emails no matter what). As with any product, I don't need to know when the regular, everyday stuff works, I need to know the exceptions. And the current failure emails are great for that. But having to log completely on, especially when I'm away from my office, just to verify that a retry eventually worked, is a pain.

Ok, so you need a success notification but only in case the job has initially failed. Got it.
