Permissions/FW issues with SQL Restore

Post by pkelly_sts »

[Case# 2281855]

I'm trying to complete a SQL restore to a VM that sits in a DMZ but hitting an issue with Admin$ share that I'm trying to resolve.

Basically I'm attempting to restore a DB from one instance on a dev server, to another DB (overwriting) on a 2nd instance on the exact same server.

The user account I'm specifying during the restore (which happens to be the same account we use for Veeam backups) is in local admins, UAC is disabled, it has sysadmin perms on the SQL server instance, but the error I'm getting is:

The network path was not found
(ERROR_BAD_NETPATH)
--tr:Error code: 0x00000035
--tr:Failed to create persisient connection to ADNIN$ shared folder on host [dest-ip-address]
--tr:Failed to install service [VeeamDeploySvc] was not installed on the host [dest-ip-address].

and this implies a filesystem/firewall permissions issue but my firewall guy can't see anything failing in the logs.

To verify this I can access \\dest-server\Admin$ from the B&R server just fine (so FW rules must be good?)

Any suggestions where to look next?

Hi Paul, you could try to install the package manually on the target machine.

You can find VeeamDeploymentDLL.dll and VeeamDeploymentSvc.exe files in C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup\Packages on your backup server, copy them to C:\Windows\Veeam on the VM and run "VeeamDeploymentSvc.exe -install". Then check that the Veeam Installer Service is up and running and listening on port 6160.

Ah, gotcha. As it happens I had a response back from support just before lunch and it turns out that although i'd covered the docs on VBR firewall ports, I hadn't appreciated that there was another doc for the Veeam Explorers so will be sifting through that one working out what we're missing.

Right, there are some additional requirements for Explorers. Could play the role.
