Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too low
Ticket #02288936
I am getting a message saying that the backup was skipped because the power level is too low. The UPS says that there were no power events for a long time (weeks). Event Viewer system logs say no power events. The backup started and completed anyway. Seen this a few times recently. Not sure why?

Is this a laptop? Any chance it was unplugged from power at times?

Any chance that’s a new desktop with built-in power battery?

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
Hi,
I have the same problem on my dell Latitude E5570.
Even if the Notebook is plugged in my docking station or battery level is 100% veeam agent doesn't work and shows that error message.
greetings
Tobias

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
I'm thinking this may be a Windows issue. I have had the same problem with a desktop plugged into a UPS and the Windows task scheduler not running something because it thought the battery was low. I'm guessing that Windows is reporting to VAW that the battery is low. I did not have this problem until I loaded the UPS software and connected the UPS to the computer via the USB cable. I have had to resort to modifying all of my scheduled tasks to ignore the battery level.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
Carlton,
That’s true but I want this issue to be investigated by our QA folks (to make sure our engine operates correctly). Already passed this thread to the team, but if you confirm the same behavior please open the case and share it with me.I'm guessing that Windows is reporting to VAW that the battery is low.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
I was saying that I have seen this behavior with other applications, not just VAW, so I don't think it is just a VAW issue.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
Hi,
I Opened a Case:#02295875
I am not sure if it's a Windows Problem, Windows shows actually 72% and in the veeam agent log veeam show's always:
[28.08.2017 22:08:15] <18> Info Skip schedule due to low battery level: 19 < 20
Via WMI I get the correct value. where is the "19%" come from? And why is the power cabled ignored?
It's always the same value, only if it's lower then 19, veeam log a different value.
Greetings
Tobiais

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
Tobiais,
Battery should be below 20% then backup is going to be skipped (that's VAW default value). Passed your case to QA team for a review as well.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
So sharing a secret regkey with all of you as this might be a tempo workaround:
Set value to 1 (will be recognized by VAW as 1%).
Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup
EndPointMinBatteryLevelForScheduledBackup

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
It is a backup server running Server 2012 R2 with both B&R and Agent. UPS is a Liebert GXT4. Not a new machine, has been around for several years. Veeam EP 1.5 upgraded to Agent 2.0.Dima P. wrote:Any chance that’s a new desktop with built-in power battery?
After no issues for 7 days the error has come back again last night. New Veeam Agent log uploaded as Ticket 02298931. UPS says no power events. Event Viewer says no power events. Scheduled backup runs even after the warning message.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
I don't have this registry key, and it isn't under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows either.Dima P. wrote:So sharing a secret regkey with all of you as this might be a tempo workaround:Set value to 1 (will be recognized by VAW as 1%).Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup EndPointMinBatteryLevelForScheduledBackup
Do I need to create it? I have added a DWORD at the location specified and added a HEX of 1.
Also, the folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows called ManagedMode seems to be corrupt? Not sure if related but I get this error message:
Error Opening Key
ManagedMode cannot be opened.
An error is preventing this key from being opened.
Details: The system cannot find the file specified.
Right clicking on the folder and going to Permissions says:
The requested security information is either unavailable or can't be displayed.
Another machine that also did an upgrade has the same issue. Is it protected in some form? Perhaps not an issue?

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
Alex,
It's not there - you have to create it manually and set the desired value. This key was made for QA testing but you can use it as a workaround.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
Hi Dima,
I implemented the Registry edit on Friday and so far so good. Unfortunately I'm now seeing the same issue on another machine running Windows 10 Pro as a simple Terminal Server. I have implemented the work around on this one too and will continue to monitor it.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
I've seen this quite a bit on my laptop lately. Even when a backup completes later, the alert is not removed. With my laptop, backup is a "best effort" affair. I have it set to trigger on backup target connection. If I'm using it in the house, then I might get a backup. If not, that's ok. Because of this arrangement, the alert is pretty much there all of the time.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
The Registry edit that we implemented at the end of the week before last (1st September) hasn't stopped the error message from coming back. Backups are still continuing as they should.

They said that there was some issue with case duplicates but I am glad to hear that we are moving in the right direction now. QA team will keep an eye on your issue and logs anyway.

[MERGED]Lenovo-Skipping scheduled backup
The organization I am supporting uses mostly Lenovo laptops. We are using the T440, T450, T470, & Lenovo Yoga models. We have a recurring problem where Veeam backups to our NAS are unable to complete because we get messages on the Lenovo’s that say, "Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too low."
This happens even though we are using fully charged batteries and these Lenovo laptops are plugged into power. Furthermore, the latest BIOS, firmware, & driver updates have been loaded on these Lenovo’s but we continue to have this problem.
What can be done to fix this issue so we can successfully backup our Lenovo laptops with Veeam? Please let me know if any further info is needed.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
After much trial and error we found that changing the startup mode for Veeam Agent service from "Automatic" to "Automatic (Delayed start)" seems to fix this issue. The time of the error message coincided with the backup server rebooting each morning.

Re: Skipping scheduled backup, because battery level is too
How did you modify your scheduled task to ignore “low power” level? I am experiencing a similar issue – my Task Scheduler does not run my tasks when my laptop battery is low. However, I don't see any option to ignore low battery level in Windows 11. Please advise.chaycock wrote: ↑Aug 29, 2017 1:38 pm I'm thinking this may be a Windows issue.
