PSC and vcenter appliances

Post by ober72 »

Hi Folks,

Wanted to know if there are any special considerations for backing up a PSC appliance. I pretty much know the deal with vcenter, i.e. crash consistent only I believe since the vmware api can't be frozen or else the job would fail (although that rang true for a windows vcenter appliance, but not sure about the new linux photon OS one).

Any pointers or tid bits would be appreciated.

Just to add we had a situation where there was file corruption on a PSC and it was booting into emergency mode so the SSO was not working and nothing could login to vcenter. a fsck on the filesystem in emergency mode fixed the issue but the question came up about having a backup ready from which we would possibly be able to perform instant restore then migrate to production

Thanks

take a look at this whitepaper by Michael White: https://www.veeam.com/wp-vmware-vcenter ... store.html

it explains backup of VCSA in embedded mode and also with external PSC
