Initializing Storage

Post by limruennshiang »

Hello,

As per screenshot, we have several backup jobs take quite long time to process, especially at the stage of "Initializing Storage"
it would take 7 - 15 mins vary.

Image

on top of that, our backup repository server memory usage will climb up to full during this process.
My thought was could it be too many restore points like 999 in my repository?

Anyone encounter this and any resolution?

my version is 9.5.0.1038

Thank you.

Hi,

Please provide more details on your job configuration and repository settings (OS, type etc). Have you checked system requirements and this article?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the links. I have read.

backup server, proxy server are running on vsphere6.0, OS - 2012R2 (16GB memory each)
Repository Server - is physical Dell Storage server. OS - 2008 R2 (32GB memory)

During the storage initializing process, it would take several minutes to process, and repository server memory will start to use up 32GB of RAM. (Running single job at a time.)
The backup job configuration is using Forever forward incremental backup. Retention restore point is 999.
The VM size is less than 500GB,

Thank you.

Hi,

The root caused would be too long of backup chain set (restore point 999 with only one full backup) i have in repository.
Instead of having forever forward incremental backup, i have deactivated the Forever Forward, and have Synthetic full backup periodically on.
Now my backup chain set is shorter (7 days 1 set), the storage initializing is taking only 4 seconds.

Please mark Solved, thank you.
