Weekly Backup Optimal Settings

Post by mlaviola »

Hi,
I am running a couple of jobs that are only doing weekly Incremental backups with a retention of 5 restore points. Are there any benefits to using Incremental with synthetic fulls? The options for synthetic fulls are only "days" so I don't see the benefit if I create synthetic fulls on the same day the weekly backup runs. If I create a synthetic full on another day then I am now getting two backups weekly, whereas I only need one backup weekly.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi Matthew,

It seems you are utilizing Forever Forward Incremental backup method so you don't need to create synthetic fulls periodically.
Anyway with the weekly schedule synthetic full doesn't make sense, indeed.
Also, I would recommend you to use SureBackup for recoverability checking as this correlates with the best practices. Thanks!

Thank you for the links. I appreciate your reply. Just doing some 'sanity' checking.
