how to refresh drive state

Post by kgauler »

Hello,
we use a single IBM tape drive ULT3580-HH6; when I remove or change the tape the state of the loaded media is not refreshed (but the backup function is ok).

Besides a complete reboot of the server I didn't find a solution for a refresh; how can I get it?
many thanks
Klaus

Hello and welcome to the community Klaus,

You can run Inventory on the drive to update the status (and identify that tape was replaced). When backup job is performed, inventory will be trigered automatically.

Many thanks,
that's I was looking for.

From other backup solutions I only know that inventory additionally imports the directory of the tape to the database as well and therefore I was not sure about the function.

If you're after scripting inventory tasks, take a look at this simple PowerShell script. Thanks.

Klaus,

When you inventory the tape, VBR reads the tape headers only, so it’s quite fast operation. If you need to fully read the tape content and add it to DB (for example if tape was removed from VBR catalogue) you can run a 'catalogue' operation on tape media.
