Veeam Backup & Replication on Project Honolulu

Post by jorgedlcruz » 3 people like this post

Hello, as you might now by now Microsoft have announced a Technical Preview of Project Honolulu. To me this project is a game changer for all Microsoft Windows IT professionals out there, the simplicity to use, and the power to have everything under the same HTML Dashboard/Management Console are real great assets to this new future Microsoft is creating.

Not ending here, Microsoft supports also third-party modules to this Project Honolulu, making it a perfect candidate to add Veeam Backup and Replication or Veeam Availability Console, for example.

With that, I've created a simple HTML module ready to go within your new Project Honolulu installations. Once you installed it, you will have something similar to this:

So my question now is, is it Veeam thinking to add a third-party official module to monitor Veeam, maybe the basics at the very beginning, and a second face where you can edit and interact with the full Veeam capabilities?

This will give Customers what they were expecting for a long time of having an HTML Veeam Console for their VBR, without the need of going to Enterprise Manager.

Thoughts?

It's a little premature to think about, as extensibility APIs are still at least a year away, per Microsoft. Once they are out, we will take a look at their capabilities and decide if such integration makes sense. At the very least, embedding Enterprise Manager into Honolulu should be easily doable.

Honestly, never heard of "Honolulu". So, I can't 'like' something I know nothing about. From a high-level, it seems like it'd certainly be something cool. But, I need more info on what it all encompasses before giving any definitive feedback. Thanks for posting though!

Thank you Gostev for such a quick reply! Yes, start with something like VAC, as it's already a web app, and move forward from there would be amazing! I will keep investigating, but until Microsoft releases more info about it, it's just all reverse engineering :)

Thanks again!

@Shane
I did a podcast with Jeff Woolsey @Microsoft after Ignite on the topic. Not sure if you subscribe to the podcast or had a chance to listen - here's the link if not.
