Hi,
I'm a little confused about these settings and what will happen :
A job with these criteria :
Incremental Backups Set
No Active Full or Synthetic Full job
Number of restore points to keep: Say 3
Schedule : Every day
So this is what I think :
First run : A full backup is created
Tomorrow : An Incremental backup file is created
Day 2,3: Again incremental backup files
So what happens after 3rd day?
The first incremental file is deleted ? and a new one is created ?
If this is the case, will we be able to restore from a full backup ?! When the chain of incremental files is corrupted ? Cause As I know in order to restore from an incremental set of backups all files should exist and form a chain.
I will be thankful if I can have an explanation in this regard because I'm worried with this job of setup I cannot restore my files.

Re: No full backup, Restore points and ..
Hi,
With provided settings the job will create Forever Forward Incremental Backup chain.
Thanks!

Please review the link as described behavior covers all your questions. So what happens after 3rd day?

Yes.If this is the case, will we be able to restore from a full backup ?!
The restore points will not be corrupted during merge. To make sure all files are recoverable, it`s recommended to use Surebackup. When the chain of incremental files is corrupted ? Cause As I know in order to restore from an incremental set of backups all files should exist and form a chain.
Thanks!

Re: No full backup, Restore points and ..
So many thanks
Well, As I guessed the first file is injected into full backup and ...
Now, here is my question :
In both scenarios, I mean this one and synthetic full backup, a chain of incremental backups are injected to the full backup file. The difference seems to be this : In the scenario here (forever forward ...) one last file is injected into full backup file but in synthetic, all old files are injected into the full backup file and incremental files are created again. So which one is better ? From security and availability aspect and also performance. In my environment, synthetic full backups for jobs about 3 TB take too much to be done. Should I switch to the forever scenario ?
Thanks

Re: No full backup, Restore points and ..
With "forever forward" chain you will always have preset number of restore points and only one full backup, so much less space is to be used, while with scheduled synthetic full, incremental runs will finish faster(no merges) with long merge on the scheduled day.
Forever forward (+Surebackup) is the best practice.
Thanks
